This position serves as the Transportation Assistant in the Overton Brooks Beneficiary Travel Program of the Veteran Transportation Services (VTS). The Beneficiary Travel Program provides transportation at Government expense to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities and other places for the purpose of examination, treatment, or care. The incumbent serves as the primary contact to Veterans and vendors for patient transportation needs.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Performs work involving consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling.
Determines eligibility for the program and processes requests.
Performs analysis of data and generates a variety of reports.
Evaluates documents and aggregates data from a variety of sources.
Interacts with other transportation services such as Disabled American Veterans (DAV), taxi vendors, ground and air ambulance companies, etc.
Arranges all modes of transportation via air ambulance, commercial air, taxi, ambulance, bus, and/or contracted transportation services.
Supports efforts to reduce waits and delays for patients by processing transportation consult requests in a timely manner.
Prepares appropriate documentation and/or scheduling for traveler according to government rates or substantial rates.
Determines eligibility for the Beneficiary Travel Program, and processing requests that includes correctly determining which of several fund control points to utilize, entering authorizations, maintaining manual and electronic accounting records, performing regular reconciliations, and adjusting account balances.
Work Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday, tours include: 7:00am-3:30pm, 7:30am-4:00pm,OR 8:00am-4:30pm OR 8:30am to 5:00pm, subject to change based on the needs of the agency.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/20/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Maintaining policies and procedures as they relate to the Beneficiary Travel Program and patient care
Arranging a variety of modes of transportation with vendors
Analyzing data and generating various reports
Handling invoices
Using and navigating multiple/various databases and software applications
Communicating with others at various levels

Physical Requirements: The duties and responsibilities of the position require some mobility between various clinic areas in separate building location sites, but generally the job is sedentary with some standing, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. The employee is required to work with computer equipment at least 75% of the time which impacts on hand and wrist motions.
