THIS IS A NORTH DAKOTA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This ND National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC INSPECTOR, Position Description Number D1285000 and is part of the ND FMS 6, National Guard.
Duties
As a surface maintenance Inspector, you will serve as an inspector of surace maintenance equipment to ensure that physical and operating characteristics are within acceptable standards and specifications. Duties invovle complex inspection work that requires a wide variety of inspection processes and techniques. May assist higher graded inspectors, as required.
Inspects a large variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment (i.e., combat, tactical, etc.) and automotive vehicles (i.e., bridge transporters, armored vehicle launched bridges, bulldozers, road graders, etc.)
Inspects complex, interrelated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical systems, equipment and their components while in operation or in a standby condition.
Inspects euqipment to determine repoairs needed.
Utilizes established Maintenance Expenditure Limits (MEL) to evaluate economic feasibility of repair(s).
Performs in-process inspections to assure that equipment is being repaired in accordance with pertinent requirements.
Performs final inspections, certifying that equipment is in satisfactory condition, or rejects the work and returns the equipment to the repair shop with specific reports prescribing additional repairs.
Serves as inspector on Command Maintenance Evaluation Teams (COMET) and/or as a member of Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Teams (MAIT.
Requirements
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposition is mandatory.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
- Must have and maintain a valid ND State Driver's License.

PCS STATEMENT: PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION COSTS WILL NOT BE PAID FOR THIS POSITION.
MILITARY GRADES: Warrant officers (CW2 and below) and Enlisted members
QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE
Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, standard preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 18 months of specialized experience, which includes; 1) Experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems, 2) Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment, 3) Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems, 4) Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems.
