About the Position: This position is with the Laboratory Services located at Desmond Doss Health Clinic Schofield Barracks, HI, which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. The Army Health Clinic Laboratory Services is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Perform phlebotomy procedures such as venipuncture, finger, and heel sticks to obtain blood samples for a variety of test procedures on a routine or immediate basis. Collect blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients. Perform a variety of standardized medical laboratory tests and examinations, many of which are complex and require numerous steps and procedures. Perform a variety of receptionist/clerical duties, scheduling appointments, and inputting data into a Computer System.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must successfully complete pre-placement and annual medical examinations
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Immunizations must be up to date per AR 40-562 and current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations.
  • Incumbent may be required to report to work during periods of inclement weather.
  • May be required to work evenings/nights, on-call schedules, rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays or other schedules common to hospital operations
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Processing laboratory specimen, preparing reports of findings, performing routine laboratory testing and entering/retrieving laboratory data from healthcare computer systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects of chemistry and/or biological science course work appropriate to the position to be filled. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
