The Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) serves as an advanced technician for outpatient care settings such as primary care, mental health and specialty clinics and may serve in a medical center, community-based outpatient clinic, mobile medical unit or may have virtual/remote assignments. This position is located within the Primary Care service of the VA Sheridan Healthcare System with a duty location in Cody, Wyoming.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Performing observation-based screening and collecting patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel
Assisting in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an outpatient setting
Performing duties focused on communication techniques required to complete the questioners and templates approved for use in any outpatient clinical setting
Maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient
Delivering care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations
Preparing patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments
Providing treatment during in person or virtual visits
Operating specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes
Collecting a wide range of specimens and preparing them for transfer to processing
Performing patient screening such as vital signs and 12-lead electrocardiogram (EKG)
Performing other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Full time Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Physical Requirements: The work involves extended periods of bending, standing and walking. Generally, the work requires recurring physical exertion with assisting patients.

Individual Occupational Requirements
Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods and techniques of the position to be filled.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the occupation); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:performing or assisting with patient assessment and/or screening; prioritization and intervention for patient care; verbal and written communication of patient status and cares given; working with patients with major psychiatric conditions and the components of assessment and care of the suicidal patient; obtaining vital signs (example: EKGs); specimen collection; and wound care

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience required for the GS-07 level. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one (1) full year of graduate education from an accredited institution in a directly related field to the position of the Intermediate Care Technician, GS-07. One (1) full year of graduate education is defined 18 semester hours in courses that are directly related to the work of this position. Such graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).
