This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for shortage category/critical need to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Ft. Benning is located in the "Tri-Community" comprised of Columbus and Ft. Moore, GA; and Phoenix City, AL. Columbus (third-largest city in Georgia) is a growing community.
Duties
Exercise exclusive law enforcement jurisdiction responsible for the, apprehension or detention of persons suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States.
Collect and preserve evidence.
Patrol assigned area by vehicle or on foot to preserve the peace, prevent crime, and protect lives and property.
Respond to and investigate emergency calls, complaints and other calls.
Protect government property, materials and facilities against trespass, theft, fire, damage and espionage.
Operate National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with Federal and State laws.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent to pass a pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical/psychiatric evaluations to determine their ability to perform the essential functions of the position IAW AR 190-56.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the Incumbent to obtain and maintain certifications for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) /first aid techniques.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position requires the incumbent to pass an annual Physical Ability Test (PAT) and perform the functions of the position to standards published in Army Regulation (AR) 190-56 and maintain a level of fitness to physically perform the position.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state Motor Vehicle License and obtain and maintain local government driver's license.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully graduate from a United States Army Military Police School.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW 190-56.
- Must qualify with assigned weapons.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting law enforcement operations to maintain the protection of life and property utilizing laws and regulations; Enforcing a wide range of law enforcement/security laws, traffic codes, regulations, directives, and procedures; Conducting investigations to detect and apprehend individuals committing suspected illegal acts, such as acts of violence, theft of property, or for violating laws concerning controlled substances. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
