The Mailroom Clerk position has a responsibility to distribute internal mail , process out going mail, assess mail destinations and the priority of delivery, operate mailroom equipment and to collect shred-ready materials from around the facility using the established guidelines.
Duties
The duties of this occupation include but are not limited to the following:
Receives all healthcare system mail from external sources such as U.S. Postal Service, United parcel Service UPS, Federal Express Fed-Ex etc.
Processing outgoing materials, facing, sacking, bundling, wrapping of outgoing materials.
Keeping the customer informed of findings and the corrective action employed to rectify mail processing problems. Following up on over-due correspondence.
Obtaining or exchanging information regarding performance of functions in the immediate work unit and (as required) to provide information to personnel in serviced units regarding mail operations.
Supporting mail and distribution operations, sorting all incoming and outgoing mail, routing mail by general subject matter to multiple delivery points. Reading and classifying materials, determining which office (or offices) have cognizance over the subject matter.
Recognizing problems within the unit and recommend improved procedures and methods to increase efficiency.
Providing timely and accurate mail service to facilitate the work of the various operating organizations.
Sorting bulk mail from post office, rerouting misdirected mail, screening for priority items, safeguarding of security classified materials, and prepare routing forms.
Using of copier equipment.
Utilizing both computer and telephonic equipment to keep customers apprised of any potential issues regarding mail distribution.
Maintain Registry logs for tracking receipt of certified and registered mail.
Collect shredding through out the facility and handle within prescribed policy for privacy and FOIA compliance.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/05/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: GS-04 : Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-4 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.

GRADE DETERMINATION GS 04 Mailroom Clerk : You must qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
General Experience: One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school. TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED
OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of general experience and education beyond high school. TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED

Physical Requirements: Work requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Work involves long periods of standing, walking and lifting packages up to 70 pounds. The employee must be able to perform these duties without difficulty.
Work Environment: The work is generally performed in a lighted, heated, air conditioned facility can have exposure to inclement weather conditions during daily mail delivery across the facility campus buildings. The work also requires delivery of mail to in-patient medical units so universal precautions required to prevent exposure to communicable diseases.
