About the Position: Serves as an Material Handler within the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), Supply and Services Division Natick, MA.

Duties

You will serve as a Materials Handler in the Logistics Warehouse. You will perform a variety of warehouse tasks which involves receiving, unloading, staging, and processes incoming shipments of items arriving via various modes of transportation. In addition, you will: perform a full range of warehouse functions for all direct shipment receipts. Receive supplies and equipment by unloading trucks; move items by handcart, forklift or similar conveyance, etc. Receive all incoming property book items from the hand receipt holder and acquisition personnel. Assist in the distribution of items; obtain signatures of hand receipt holder, or their designated representative. Accept excess items from the installation. Operate motor vehicle with appropriate gross weight of 26,000 pounds to pick up and deliver supplies, deliveries, and equipment on and off the installation. Operate forklifts capable of lifting up to 36,000 pounds and as high as 168 inches to load, unload, or move material in the warehouse and up and down ramps.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A physical examination may be required for this position.
  • Must be able to lift/carry items up to 40lbs.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's license.
  • May require occasional travel up to 10%.
  • Protective clothing requires when handling hazardous materials, as needed.
  • Forklift Operators License/certification required within 1 year of employment.
  • Exposure to inclement weather may be required. (i.e. hot and cold temperatures, or wind and rain/snow).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler~ without more than normal supervision. Assisting with common warehousing duties; and following basic procedures to ensure property is received, transferred and/or removed properly. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Efforts: Work requires standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time; bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from others. Light physical effort is required to operate hand and foot controls on vehicle. Fork lift operation requires moderate physical effort in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the fork lift truck and raising, lowering and tilting the loads being moved. Strain is caused by the vibration of the fork lift truck. Working Conditions: Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, and/or poorly lighted. Regularly exposed to possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease and other solvents as well as high noise levels. Hard-toe shoes, gloves, and other protective devices are available. Employee drives in all types of traffic and weather conditions with the exposure to the possibility of injuries resulting from accidents. The fork lift operator normally works inside in areas that are sometimes damp and draft. Occasionally works outside in all kinds of weather. Cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, fork lift trucks overturning, falling objects, or accidents with other moving equipment.
