About the Position: This position supports the Assistant Chief of Staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Located in a high profile, fast paced environment. Develop and sustain a level of professionalism among staff and clientele. Must have exceptional interpersonal skills and professional demeanor.

Duties

Serve as Administrative Support Specialist for the Chief of Staff. Perform a variety of administrative support functions such as: prepares correspondence, compiles reports, schedules meetings, maintains an executive calendar, and utilizes office automation software. Serve as focal point for receipt and review of incoming tasks, projects and correspondence. Track/monitor actions needed by staff to ensure items are completed timely. Receive high-ranking visitors from both the military and civilian communities, to include members of Congress and the press media; in person and telephonically. Schedule a variety of events/meetings, informs Director of upcoming events and keeps staff aware of status. Manage/assist staff with travel documents/itineraries; coordinate or prepare travel orders using an automated system, such as the Defense Travel System (DTS). Develop briefing materials or presentations for leadership utilizing office automation software (e.g. Microsoft Office suite). Prepare and tracks actions for civilian personnel hiring. Make recommendations to leadership/supervisor regarding changes in office policy, procedures, format or correspondence. Enter data into time and attendance systems; responds to employee inquiries on time and attendance and payroll issues.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative support functions, such as: preparing correspondence, compiling reports, scheduling meetings, maintaining an executive calendar; utilizing office automation software; assisting in preparing presentations and briefing materials; managing/assisting staff with travel documents/itineraries; utilizing time and attendance systems; preparing and tracking civilian personnel hiring actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Human Resources or Health Care Administration. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application package.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application package.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementComputer SkillsCustomer ServiceManages and Organizes Information Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
