This position serves as Supply Technician for the Property Management Division within Lifecycle Management of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. As a Supply Technician, you will provide service lines and other hospital facilities with equipment and material.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Reviews existing stock and manufacturers' catalogs, manuals and listings to obtain substitute or interchangeable items to supply in lieu of items requisitioned.
Communicates with customers and vendors to obtain information regarding availability and functionality of non-expandable equipment and supplies.
Provides guidance to customers on identification of material through research of original equipment manufacturers part catalog for part numbers, descriptions, and size of parts needed.
Processes applicable catalog update transactions in accordance with current published procedures.
Communicates to the lead or supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures, providing information as needed orally or in writing regarding customer or external stakeholder issues, general telephone inquiries and visitor referrals.
Coordinates drop-off of new or transferred equipment and pick up of turn in equipment; scanner pick up and drop off for annual Electronic Inventory Listing (EIL) inventory; and delivery times and area with contractors and vendors with other VA activities, contractors or manufacturers through personal transactions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Supply Technician position. Specialized experience includes: providing equipment and material to clinical and administrative areas of a health care facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing equipment and related material; utilizing an automated system to maintain equipment records; and answering customer questions regarding non-expandable equipment and materials. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Successfully completed 4 years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school. COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-5 level? Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. This level of physical demands occurs, for example, when employees are regularly assigned to activities such as tracing misplaced items or conducting physical inventories in warehouses, and other storage areas, or when they are regularly involved in stocking and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets.
Work is performed throughout the medical center and supported catchment areas, which includes wards,
storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty, and poorly
lighted. The possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury are present in the day-to-day work of
the position. Work requires stocking supplies in the primary inventory area as well as numerous
secondary inventory points throughout the hospital work area, including wards, clinics, operating rooms,
warehouses, and nursing areas. Work requires maintaining a clean environment while performing tasks
that can produce dust or other infectious pollutants while transitioning between environments. Supported
units may be offsite requiring roundtrip travel time in excess of 90 minutes. Tours of duty may require
afternoon, evening, and/or overnight shifts.
