DON Pathways Internship Program You will serve as a Student Trainee (Information Technology) in the Pathways Internship Program of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY.

Duties

Administrative interns work under the guidance of and assist higher level personnel performing pre-professional work. Examples of duties include: You will interact with engineers and other users to provide help desk support related primarily to MS Windows and Office. You will perform support tasks involved with equipment operations. You will provide technical assistance and support for incoming queries and issues related to computer systems, software, and hardware. You will ask questions to determine the nature of problems. You will walk customers through problem-solving processes. You will troubleshoot and diagnose issues. You will assist with all network system administration, software installations and upgrades, system hardware procurements and account access.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) in an accredited school.
  • Selectee is required to sign a participant agreement.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for the assigned specialty area and level within 12 months of appointment.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the NO-01 Pay Band you must meet the following required level of education *Currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a Bachelor's degree (or more advanced degree) program with major study in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology management OR a related degree that will provide a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and requires the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Enrollment must be on at least a half-time basis. *We encourage you to submit documentation (acceptance letter, enrollment verification, transcripts, etc.) to verify this information. To be eligible for the NO-02 Pay Band you must meet the following required level of education: *Completed 4 years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree (or more advanced degree) program with major study in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or enrolled and accepted for enrollment in a degree program that will provide a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) Requirement: This position requires you to currently possess and maintain an overall G.P.A. of 2.5 or greater out of a 4.0 scale. (G.P.A.'s are rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.45 rounds to 2.5 and 2.44 rounds to 2.4). Your G.P.A. must be reflected in your resume. This position may be non-competitively converted to a 2210 series within the NO Career Track at the 02 Pay Band level position after meeting all regulatory requirements (including qualification requirements), and upon the recommendation of management. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position has been designated as a Cyber IT/ Cybersecurity Workforce position and as a condition of employment incumbents of the position are required to comply with the DON Cyber IT/CSWF Program requirements of SECNAV M-5239.2 which include: Earn and maintain appropriate credentials from the Cyber IT/CSWF Qualification Matrix (described in SECNAV M-5239.2) associated with the specialty area and level commensurate with the scope of major assigned duties for the position to which you are assigned, and; Participate in a continuous learning program as described in SECNAVINST 1543.2. A minimum of 40 hours of Cyber IT/CSWF related continuous learning annually documented in a current individual development plan signed by both the employee and supervisor.
