The primary purpose of this position, ELECTROPLATER, WG-3711-7, potential WG-3711-10, is to perform the full range of electroplating operations to include surface modification technologies such as automated shot peen.

Duties

Perform the full range of electroplating work including operations that require plating or treatment of limited or precisely defined areas on parts; require special treatment and processing to insure adherence of the metallic deposit or coating; or require extensive or precise controls of the electrolytic or chemical process. Perform shot peen processing for various aircraft, missile and other components which is subjected to repeated complex load patterns to reduce surface tensile stress and to reduce the potential for subsequent fatigue cracking and failure of the component. Use new zinc Nickel process to apply alloys of Zinc Nickel to high strength steel components. Work the engineering to develop and prototype new anodes, fixtures, and repair processes. Perform precision elctroplating operations using specialized reusable conforming anodes.

  • The master electroplater must pass the nationally accredited and recognized Certified Aerospace Finisher (CAF) exam.
  • THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL.
  • This position may require travel.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP).

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3700 METAL PROCESSING FAMILY. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Dexterity and Safety PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires continuous use of hands, and frequent standing, stooping, bending, reaching, and lifting at shoulder level. Objects handled vary in shape, size, and intricacy and require extensive handling in pre-plating and post-plating treatment processes, and in preparing and installing a wide variety of handling and holding devices. Frequently handles objects weighing 25 pounds and over with assistance with hoists, lifts, and other workers are available to assist in moving heavier items. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is usually performed in areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated, and safety controlled. Frequently exposed to acid solutions, solvents, hot waxes, noxious fumes, excessive humidity, and a variety of caustic chemicals. Protections from exposure to burns, scalds, and skin irritations often requires the workers to wear uncomfortable safety equipment such as rubber gloves, rubber aprons, goggles, face shields, or respirators.
