Primarily be assigned to work on inpatient which includes but is not limited to acute care, acute inpatient rehab, and post operative management. This does not negate being asked to cover other sections of the therapy department, if it is required. This therapist, under the indirect supervision of the Physical Therapy Supervisor and/or Lead PT, is responsible for the complete and thorough evaluation of all patients assigned to his/her care, using standard of care per practice standards.

Duties:
Provides patient care and support services to an adult population with neurological conditions, amputations, general surgical, and other medical conditions.
Incumbent shall be aware of and practice patient safety in all clinical activities and fully participate in all required safety training. Safety concerns and issues will be brought up to the immediate supervisor's attention.
Incumbent shall participate in the Performance Improvement program by providing data to the Physical Therapy Supervisor as requested.
Employee must tailor patient care to meet the needs of individual patients and complete the assessment as per policies, deliver those services, and respond to any concerns of the individual patient, caregiver, and/or family member, as needed.
Therapist shall make recommendations for any needs to monitor patient outcomes.
Possess advanced skills to perform and interpret specialized evaluation procedures of the patients referred to his/her care and determine the treatment course according to the findings. Performs tests and measurements of muscles, nerves, range of motion, coordination, posture, ambulation, circulatory, respiratory status, using various means.
Performs tests, interprets the results of the functional capacity evaluations and job site analyses and documents results according to standards. Responsibilities include the performance, planning, administration, and modification of therapeutic interventions that focus on posture, locomotion, strength, endurance, balance, coordination, joint mobility, flexibility, pain, healing and repair, functional abilities in daily living skill, including work.
Plans and implements a comprehensive treatment plan designed to maximize the patients' functional potential.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of differential diagnosis regarding all the systems of the body, as well as understanding of psychological or psychosocial factors that may impact the patient's progress.
Attends educational opportunities regarding conditions of patients assigned to his/her care.
Attends and participates in scheduled and appointed professional programs committee meetings, workshops, conferences, and seminars.
Meets and maintains all mandatory requirements, per VA, facility, and licensure policies.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency: Individuals appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. chapters 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA must be proficient in written and spoken English.
Licensure: Individuals hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Education and Experience: The individual must meet at least one of the requirements below:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy AND five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist, OR
Master's degree in Physical Therapy AND two (2) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist, OR
Doctorate degree in physical therapy
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation).
Grade Determinations: 52 weeks at the GS-11
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the all following KSAs.
1. Advanced knowledge and expert skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in a specialized treatment area of physical therapy.
2. Ability to serve as a consultant and subject matter expert for health care providers regarding the delivery of care within a specialized content area of physical therapy (see paragraph 2i).
3. Ability to teach and mentor medical center staff in a specialized content area of physical therapy.
4. Ability to guide the work of a multi-disciplinary team in a specialized content area of physical therapy.
5. Advanced knowledge and expert skill to perform and interpret specialized procedures and tests in evaluating the treatment outcomes in the assigned specialty content area (see Definitions, paragraph 2.i.).
The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-11 to GS-12.
Preferred Experience: preferred experience working with patients post op amputation. Preferred experience of working in acute inpatient rehab. preferred experience of working with patients with acute neuro diagnosis/impairment.
Physical Requirements: Pre-placement and periodic physical examinations are required for hybrid occupations to ensure workers are placed in positions where they can perform the essential functions of their job considering their physical, mental and emotional capacities, without endangering their health or the health of their co-workers.
