This position, located at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System Police Service, serves as a Security Assistant. The primary purpose of the position is to monitor physical security equipment and systems supporting the Facility.
Duties
Major Duties of this position include but are not limited to...
Performs alarm and access monitoring, tracing access patterns, programming, assigning or removing user permissions, updating databases, remotely opening and securing doors during routine and emergency operations and generating a variety of reports as needed
Assesses on-scene behavior and determines when it is appropriate to dispatch law enforcement or other personnel to investigate. Responsible for responding to alarm systems monitoring fire, access, intrusion, duress/panic, medical emergencies, psychiatric emergencies, medical assist teams, etc.; and emergency digital paging system
Implements policies, procedures, and methods for identifying and protecting information, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or material
Operates an established vehicle registration and visitor management program and parking registration and/or photo identification equipment
Monitors and receives routine and emergency calls from a variety of sources that need police, fire, medical or other emergency services
Receives and compiles information from various sources related to police and emergency incidents, taking appropriate actions regarding intrusion, duress, and hold-up alarms
Performs system checks on a variety of equipment used in the dispatch center; troubleshoots systems when problems arise and resolves issues whenever possible
Uses the VA Police Software to research information, complete reports and logs, vehicle registrations, etc.; compiles and prepares reports related to events occurring in the operation of the police control center for dissemination of the completed products to various management officials
Generates police reports for routine, non-criminal cases such as: lost property, missing patients, etc.; processes Courtesy Violations Notices (CVN) and US District Court Violation Notices (USDCVN) in accordance with established policies

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to....In-depth knowledge of standard procedures in the field, requiring extended training or experience, to perform such work as adapting equipment when this requires consideration of the functioning characteristics of the equipment; interpreting situations based on experience and observations; or extracting information from various sources when this requires considering the applicability of information and the characteristics and quality of the sources; work requires, in addition to general administrative and/or clerical skills, practical knowledge of specific security or law enforcement objectives, programs, methods, and procedures, and skills in carrying out support tasks related to law enforcement and security administration; the position has practical knowledge of the mission and objectives of Police Services, physical security systems, and procedures to support operations and the work of other staff. Knowledge of VA and VHA policies and procedures related to security procedures; knowledge to execute administrative tasks that support police security related responsibilities; knowledge to monitor and respond to physical alarm systems and security cameras to include troubleshooting basic equipment problems to dispatching Officers in response to potentially more significant issues; the position demonstrates broad working knowledge of how the various alarm systems operate and interconnect with the overall VAMC physical security monitoring system to identify and resolve security risks; the position has extensive knowledge of VA and facility physical security standard operating procedures and practices to monitor the different alarms, determine possible causes of the alarm and initiate a response from a range of options...OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years of post-high school education...OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the first 60 semester hours of post-high school education.

Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary in nature. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Working on off-tours, rotating shifts or regular overtime may be required
