The primary purpose of this position is to keep stocks of tools and parts used by shop employees in their work and to issue items to the shop employees when they need them, keeping track of whereabouts of items and monitoring returns.

Duties

- Performs a complete range of standard receiving and storing of assigned stock, tools, tool kits, and/or equipment items. - Supports supply personnel in the performance of inventories. Manages the flight/section hazardous waste accumulation point. - Performs a complete range of issuing duties on assigned items. Reviews purchase requests for standard commercial supplies, services, and parts. - Maintains catalogs and initiates supply actions. Operates electric, gasoline, LPG, or diesel-powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing 10,000 pounds or more higher than 168 inches. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position. Other Applicable licenses are required to Forklifts.

  • Must be Hazard Material/Hazard Waste Manager Certified with certification training within 12 months of assignment and must retain eligibility for annual recertification training.
  • Position may be identified as being Inclement Weather Essential, Personnel are expected to report to duty when base leadership has declared “Minimum Manning” due to inclement weather.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900, Warehousing and Stock Handling Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a Tools and Parts Attendant (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide variety of tools and parts. Dexterity and safety as it relates to the use of tools/equipment and storing various items. Good shop work practices to include setting up and maintaining a neat, well-organized, and secure storage area. Ability to receive, store, issue, and inventory parts, tools, and/or equipment and maintain records using automated and/or mechanized systems without more than normal supervision. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. from shop personnel and tools and parts catalogs. Ability to inspect tools, parts, and equipment for visible damage and make determinations as to feasibility of repair. 2. Technical abilities to suggest substitution of parts/tools, determine causes of overages/shortages, determine need for calibration of tools and when they are damaged beyond repair, identify items by general descriptions from shop personnel, and setup and/or shift storage locations. 3. Knowledge of and ability in operating one or more electric, gasoline, diesel, or LPG powered forklift trucks with a capacity of 10,000 pounds or more. Knowledge of work practices to accurately gauge height, length, width, and weight of a load and determine proper warehousing/storage location. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations to minimize safety violations and injuries. 4. Skill in operating heavy forklift trucks to move, stack, unstack, load, and unload materials in and about warehouses, storage areas, loading docks, and vehicles. Ability to interpret instructions and specifications related to forklift operation. Ability to orient to a storage area quickly, without the need for detailed instructions. Ability to safely operate a variety of forklifts 10,000 pounds or greater capacity to include moving about outside in rough or muddy terrain and in places where there is little room to stack or maneuver. 5. Knowledge of basic computer operation and keyboard function keys to support shop operations and produce a variety of forms , and entering data into a predefined spreadsheet or database, etc. Must be HAZMAT Certified with certification training within 12 months of assignment and must retain eligibility for annual recertification training. 6. Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations and applicable guidance in order to make decisions and recommendations concerning hazardous waste characterization and disposal activities. Knowledge includes environmental concepts, procedures, practices, and requirements for identification, classification, handling, storage, shipment, and disposition of hazardous and toxic wastes. A working knowledge of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and applicable EPA, DOD and Air Force implementing regulations and guidelines. Knowledge of the National Contingency Plan and applicable EPA, Department of defense (DOD), and Air Force implementing regulations and guidelines. Knowledge of Toxic Substances Control Act to ensure standards are met. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries weight up to 10 pounds. May occasionally handle items weighing up to 40 pounds. May lift heavier items with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally done in areas that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. The attendant may occasionally work in areas that are drafty. The work is sometimes dirty, dusty. and greasy. The attendant is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises.
