We expect to fill 3 vacancies at this time; however, additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available. These are NOT Law Enforcement positions.

Duties

Provides visiting public with accurate information concerning facilities, rules and regulations, BLM programs, emergency services, points of interest (historical, cultural, and natural), travel routes, and park activities. Prepares necessary leases, permits, grants, and other documents involving appropriate provisions as to royalty and other payments, limitations, and stipulations. Monitors areas for overuse, vandalism, and fire protection on a routine basis. Prepares incident reports and maintains administrative casefiles. Collects data such as the number of recreation visits, visitor days, types of activities, permits issued, recreation site specific details, off-highway vehicle designation acreage, and partnership agreement details Enforces regulations concerning use of BLM land and recreational facilities through educational and interpretive techniques or makes referral to law enforcement personnel as warranted. Maintains recreational trails to standards of safety and ensures that signs and boundary markers are adequately posted. Assists with the development of interpretative programs by selecting and organizing material to suit the purpose of the program.

Qualifications

This is not a Law Enforcement Position. This position has an individual occupational requirement (IOR) that must be met to be considered. Applicants must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: Park guide or tour leader, Law enforcement or investigative work, Archeological or historical preservation research work, Forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area, Management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. In addition to the above IOR, to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. To qualify for the GS-05: You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 level. Examples of specialized experience may include: explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities; collecting fees; issuing reservations and permits; conducting guided tour programs; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; or monitoring special recreation permits. -OR- Successful completion of four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours of related course work. -OR- A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. To qualify for the GS-07 grade level: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; performing security patrols in a park or similar area ; collecting fees; issuing reservations and permits; developing and conducting guided tour programs; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; monitoring special recreation permits; or assisting with supervision of seasonal recreation technicians. -OR- Education: Successful completion of one full academic year of graduate level education in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: Work is mostly performed outdoor in all types of weather on rugged terrain to include; steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. Position require physical exertion such as, but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain, standing for long periods of time, bending, digging, hiking, lifting, or similar activities. Duties may require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads. Work may involve early morning hours, daytime hours, or night hours and may require working on holidays. Work Environment: Most work will be performed out of doors, in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations. Work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living skills for upwards of two weeks in duration. Indoor duties are performed in a normal office setting.
