This is an Internship position in the Pathways Program. This is an Excepted Service appointment. The Pathways Internship Program offers candidates the opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job training and experience related to the HR career field. Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules.

Duties

Performs developmental assignments and administrative tasks in HR functions such as recruitment and placement, classification and position management, labor relations, management employee relations, HR automated systems, training, etc Coordinates actions with other offices, such as serviced organizations, payroll offices, and other HR offices in receiving the information requested, ensuring accuracy of data, etc. Handles general customer support inquiries received telephonically and/or electronically. Provides appropriate, accurate, and timely responses or redirects the customer(s) to the HR Specialist to address/resolve non-routine actions or refer to the appropriate functional area. Uses office automation software and equipment to produce and print documents, correspondence, forms, reports, etc. Specific processing functions require varying steps and use of different functions from one assignment to another. Uses word processing software to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print forms, memos, and letters while ensuring proper format, grammatical accuracy, and correct punctuation and spelling. Uses existing database or spreadsheet software to create, enter, revise, sort, or calculate, and retrieve data for reports.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen verifiable through E-Verify

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (at a minimum); some positions require a TS/SCI - Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information; A Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph (CI/Poly) may be required
  • Must complete online Occupational Assessment Questionnaire
  • Must sign written agreement regarding Federal Government Ethics and Conflicts of Interest
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0
  • Must be enrolled at a qualifying educational institution at least half time
  • Trial Period: Selectees will be required to serve a trial period

Qualifications

Applicants must be current students or enrolled for Spring 2024 with a preferred degree in HR or related field at a qualifying educational institution. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Qualifying Education Institution: Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education (https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx) OR (http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ous/international/usnei/us/edlite-visitus-forrecog.html): 1) A 2-year or 4-year college or university You must meet the minimum qualification requirements as stated in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=Group-Standards Minimum Qualifications for the GS-299-03: Completion of one academic year of post-high school study. Minimum Qualifications for the GS-299-04: Completion of two academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree. Minimum Qualifications for the GS-299-05: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
