We are looking for a skilled Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner at the Richmond Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. The incumbent ARNP is expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of consultative inpatient and outpatient Electrophysiology patient care at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System, Medical Service.

Duties

As a Licensed Independent Provider, the Electrophysiology Nurse Practitioner practices autonomously and in coordination with health care professionals and other individuals. The incumbent provides a wide range of health care services, including the diagnosis and management of acute, chronic and complex health problems; health promotion; disease prevention; health education; and counseling to individuals, families, groups and communities. Must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of the medical center . Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing high-quality care, increasing access & improving outcomes for Veterans. Obtaining and evaluating medical histories; performing physical examinations; performing therapeutic and diagnostic procedures; and ordering laboratory studies, radiographs, electrocardiograms, and other special examinations. Making arrangements for further care if appropriate (e.g., by entering consults) and serving as a consultant to other providers. Working collaboratively with all levels of staff including trainees (e.g. medical students, NP/RN students, PA students, interns, residents, etc.) and a multidisciplinary staff in a fast-paced educational, and collegial environment. Developing and implementing evidence based nursing protocols and organizing educational activities targeted toward staff training and development. Assess, diagnose, monitor, promote health and protection from disease, and manage various actual or potential conditions, illnesses, disorders, and injuries of patients presenting to the Electrophysiology/Cardiology Section. Specific knowledge to independently and without direct supervision evaluate and treat patients with conditions specific to cardiac electrophysiology, including but not limited to proficiency of cardiac device interrogation and management. Provide cardiology care focused and related counseling and education to patients, families, and caregivers. Triage cardiac electrophysiology/cardiology care consultations and initiate/expedite added cardiology care consultation for patients with cardiology care related conditions, illnesses, disorders, and injuries. Manage acute and chronic cardiology care related conditions, with focus on health promotion, protection, and preservation, disease prevention, risk reduction, behavior modification, and patient education and counseling. Conduct preparatory work-up for cardiac electrophysiology/cardiology care procedures and post-cardiology care procedures management. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Note: ensure the 10-2850a lists all current or previous licensure for verification. While this announcement is posted at various grade levels, the Professional Standards Board will determine the grade assignment of a selected candidate. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: IR Lab Experience/Procedural Lab Experience preferred. BLS/ACLS Requirements: Current certification in Basis Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required for all staff providing direct patient care and working in PCU. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in a patient care setting; adequately lighted, temperature controlled, and ventilated. Office temperatures fluctuate periodically; involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as clinics, offices, meeting and training rooms or libraries; exposure to noise and dust on occasion. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.
