Duties

(cont. from Summary) prior to promotion. GS-1702-07: The primary purpose of this position is to perform technical, specialized work in support of the education function. Duties GS-1702-05 - Performs developmental work assignments. - Performs recurring work assignments. - Participates in special studies and projects. - Prepares written correspondence and other documentation. GS-1702-07 - Assists in providing informational and academic advisement to military personnel of all ranks, their dependents, and/or civilian personnel pursuing undergraduate/graduate, vocational, technical, and professional development opportunities at various levels. - Assists in advising officers and airmen regarding requirements for unique Air Force educational opportunities. - Processes requests for tuition assistance. Assists in gathering and compiling data and supportive background information for use in making program decisions involved in tuition assistance. - Performs miscellaneous administrative duties.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, for the GS-1702, Education and Training Technician Series. This is a developmental position; this position may be filled at the GS-05-Target-GS-07 grade level, or this position may be filled at the Fully Qualified GS-07 level based on the qualification of the candidate. The individual selected for the GS-05-Target-GS-07 position may be promoted to the target level without further competition upon meeting any legal and regulatory requirements. GS-1702-05, SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 year equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level, which provided knowledge of the basic principles, concepts, and methodology used in education and training. OR EDUCATION: 4 years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. GS-1702-07, SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR NON-FEDERAL FEDERAL EMPLOYEES: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of education and training policies, programs and processes to perform limited technical support work relating to On-the-Job Training (OJT), Career Development Course (CDC) administration, career field education and training plans (CFETPs), Specialty Training Standards (STSs), and Course Training Standards (CTSs), and DOD education policies, programs and processes. Knowledge of the Air Force Personnel Data System and PC III procedures in order to process training and education transactions. Working knowledge of the staff functions of the office to which assigned to receive and refer telephone calls and visitors. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR NON-FEDERAL FEDERAL EMPLOYEES: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. Ability to learn basic techniques in education and training services. 4. Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions. 5. Ability to plan and organize work, and consult effectively with co-workers. GS-1702-07 1. Knowledge of education and training policies, programs and processes relating to On-the-Job Training (OJT), Career Development Course (CDC) administration, career field education and training plans (CFETPs), Specialty Training Standards (STSs), and Course Training Standards (CTSs), and DOD education policies, programs and processes. 2. Knowledge of Air Force data systems as they pertain to training and education data management. 3. Ability to plan and organize work independently. 4. Skill in preparing written forms, schedules and reports relating to base training and education programs. 5. Ability to read and interpret specific procedural guidelines pertaining to administrative support, including locally developed equipment operating and document processing instructions, which are directly applicable to the work. 6. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, using tact and courtesy. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
