Duties
Present facts, issues and positions that convey the intended information with the appropriate diplomacy and emphasis;
Prepare well-researched and logically organized presentations related to work assignments;
Participate on interdisciplinary teams to provide resource specialist input;
Perform a variety of natural resource analytical and operational activities in resource programs such as wildlife, fish, timber and/or special uses;
Conduct studies and/or surveys to collect data related to natural resources;
Inspect natural resource activities for conformance with standards and compliance with regulatory requirements;
Monitor natural resource projects to document degree of impacts occurring, vegetative community changes and trends of ecological status;
Evaluate diverse environmental conditions and proposed natural resources management actions or changing habitat conditions to address issues and/or successes;
Prepare appropriate reports related to work assignments;
Summarize collected data for use in reports or by senior professionals who use information to plan projects.
Requirements

Qualifications

Basic Requirement:
GS-401
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Performed specific portions or minor phases of assignments in support of senior natural resource specialists; AND/OR Collected resource data and conducted sampling for studies, reporting data observations and providing recommendations to supervisor; AND/OR Researched existing policies and regulations to provide technical assistance relative to policy on natural resource management; AND/OR Provided input and used natural resources data generated by Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to prepare reports.
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
