About the Position: Serves as Army Community Service (ACS) Multi-Functional Specialist at the installation level with professional and technical responsibility for assisting Commanders with assessing, tailoring and prioritizing ACS service delivery in support of local military and Family needs.

Duties

Serves as Army Community Service (ACS) Multi-Functional Specialist at the installation level w/professional responsibility for assisting Commanders assessing, tailoring and prioritizing ACS service delivery in support of local military/Family needs. Evaluates and interprets data to identify and clarify issues and concerns; determines appropriate courses of action to positively affect Soldier and Family readiness, mission readiness, recruitment and retention. Establishes, implements, assigns and manages Soldier and Family readiness services delivery procedures that comply with regulatory requirements and meet community needs. Serves as principal advisor on career, transition, relocation, personal financial management, employment, community life, emergency/crisis assistance, personal and Family readiness, and all other ACS related services. Identifies, advises and consults with leaders on positive sustainable efforts that foster an environment of trust and responsiveness to various organizational quality of life issues. Researches and writes articles; prepares and delivers presentations on services and activities.

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Army Community Service Specialist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing comprehensive and responsive services to the population to include client intake, information & referral, crisis intervention, life skills, and/or transition services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: psychology, sociology or criminal justice. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
