This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located in the Army Futures & Concepts Center - Medical Capability Development Integration Directorate - Computational Sciences Division. The Medical CDID is the premier designer of integrated and effective world-class military medical capabilities.

Duties

The individual in this position will serve as a health statistician and/or team lead Serves as a health statistician on ad hoc teams and/or team lead for projects intended to define problems, formulate overall concepts, and evaluate findings requiring novel approaches. Provides statistical and analytical support for various organizations. Provides consultative services as appropriate to other organizations requesting data driven analysis of operational medical questions.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Statistician (Health): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Applying knowledge of statistical and mathematical theory and techniques to solve problems and draw rational inferences; 2) Maintaining data warehouses as well as developing computational algorithms and programming tools to isolate and extract data; 3) Planning survey projects and other research investigations in the medical environment or field; and 4) Applying knowledge of statistical packages with analytic capabilities, such as Statistical Analysis System (SAS,) to manage and analyze medical data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
