The Locksmith works in the Maintenance and Operations Section of Engineering Service with Tennessee Valley Healthcare System performing common Locksmith tasks.
Duties
As the Locksmith, the incumbent's duties include but are not limited to:
Installing, repairing, and re-keying of all locks on station.
Re-pinning seven tumbler locks, fitting and making of master keys, suite master, and individual room keys for each lock.
Combination lock changes in high security areas and making keys, mortising doors for locks, installing all hardware on doors, maintenance, and repair of all secondary locks on station.
Assisting management with the design of locking systems during project development.
Operating a computer system to administratively maintain records of keys issued to various services. Responsible for the coordination of the semi-annual key inventory for the facility.
Maintain locking devices on file cabinets, desks, and various other types of equipment.
Use and maintain hand and power operated tools.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The duties of this position may require physical exertion involving lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes and shapes. Physical effort is exerted in walking, running, climbing, crawling, and bending. Strain related to lack of movement such as standing in place, crouching, or stooping for extended periods of time.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is exposed to heat, restricted ventilation, and poor illumination in areas such as equipment rooms. Incumbent is exposed to all weather conditions when working outside (parking areas, roof, etc.). Incumbent is exposed to varying climatic conditions from an office, to environmentally controlled space, to excessive heat in the boiler plant. The equipment rooms are above the normal decibel rating and hearing protection is provided. Hazardous gases/fumes are in the work environment during various tasks. Respiratory protection is provided as needed for the incumbent. Incumbent is at risk of injury from falls, burns, bruises, and cuts. Incumbent may be required to work on tall ladders and scaffolds and occasionally is exposed to communicable disease while working in certain words.
