This position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Duties

This announcement is an open continuous vacancy announcement to allow for current, permanent employees of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System to indicate interest in current (and future) Dentist vacancies. Applicants to this announcement should update their application every 90 days to be considered for internal reassignments. NOTE: This announcement will remain open until filled. Applications will be checked weekly or at the request of management. Incumbents are assigned to the Dental Service and provide direct dental care to the assigned patient population, in accordance with VHA guidelines. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. As a Dentist you will provide direct dental care to qualified patients in an outpatient setting and serve as a consultant to other healthcare providers in accordance with VHA Office of Dentistry Standard of Care. You will be expected to be able to perform the following functions: Experienced in the interpretation of dental radiographs, in delivery of diagnostic consultations, and in clinical dental treatment as outlined in their individual approved privileges and in accordance with the VHA Office of Dentistry Standard of Care to include but not limited to the following topics: Appropriate and Timely Management of Dental Infections. Prescribe appropriate antimicrobial treatment when clinically indicated, Perform dental extractions on site when clinically indicated. Appropriate Management of Tooth Restoration. Diagnose need for tooth restoration and perform said restoration successfully. Perform dental extractions on site should the tooth be unsalvageable. Appropriately plan course of treatment that leads to overall dental health for the patient. Appropriate Planning and Performance in Regard to Dental Prosthetics. Diagnose need for dental appliance. Obtain proper impressions for dental appliance. Ensure proper fit of dental appliance before delivery to patient. Order surgical consultations in a timely manner when clinically indicated. You will maintain appropriate documentation to include but not limited to the following topics: Timeliness - all documentation must be completed by the incumbent themselves within 7 days from Date of Service, Each note meets Standard Criteria-must contain the basic elements for an accurate, complete, and billable dental note, Each note documents course that leads to overall dental health for the patient. All Staff Dentists are expected to adhere to VHA Code of Ethics, performs own duties as required, and Maintain Information Security Protocols as covered in N.E.0. Display professionalism at all times and be responsible for performing own duties as required. Understand and respect duties and roles of others in the department. Responsive to needs of team members regarding time and information. Available at assigned duty station during duty hours for team members to consult. Adhere to HIPAA guidelines in both written and verbal communication. Perform only those privileges for which approval has been granted by the Medical Center Director prospectively and in writing. Maintain own professional qualifications, participate in customer service training, computer training, and attend mandated medical center training activities as required. You may be assigned administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational and administrative committees, task groups, or special projects. Incumbents who supervise residents will provide education, training, mentoring, and supervision to students and residents. Incumbents with specialized training in a particular specialty may be assigned section chief responsibilities for the subspecialty and may function as the primary clinician or subject matter expert responsible for formulating policy, procedures, education, and training affecting the daily clinical operations of the subspecialty. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: May vary, but typically covers normal operating hours (Monday - Friday, 7:30a.m. - 4:00p.m.), not to exceed 40 hours per week. Candidates may be required to work alternate shifts, be on call, work weekends and/or holidays as patient care and needs of the service require. Qualifications

Dentist Basic Requirements Citizenship: Citizen of the United States. Education: A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Residency or Comparable Experience: Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Licensure and Registration: Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Residents (Independent and Integrated Programs): Graduates of approved United States and Canadian schools of dentistry must have a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before the second year of VA residency, or, for integrated programs, meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for residents of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes. The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active current licensure. English Language Proficiency: Dentists, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Preferred Experience: -Residence training experience, hospital experience or have been practicing for over 5 years -good computer skills and understanding of electronic record keeping -prior VA experience Grade Determinations: Staff Dentist: An individual that demonstrates the ability in the field of general dentistry or a dental specialty who is employed to perform the duties related to various professional activities of patient care and treatment without supervision. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must demonstrate ability in the general practice of dentistry; be capable of assisting in maintaining accepted standards of professional care in VA facilities; and be capable of accepting full responsibility for the proper care and treatment of assigned patients. Physical Requirements: Light carrying, under 15 pounds; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; both eyes required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); mental and emotional stability.
