About the position: This position will be assigned to the 47th Force Support Squadron, Auto Craft Center, Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, Texas.
This position is Flexible category, guaranteed a minimum of 0 hours but can work up to a maximum of 40 hours per week. May include nights, weekends and holidays. As a flexible employee, you are not eligible for leave or benefits.
Requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, crawling and working under vehicles and in tight space
Duties
Assists journeyman with routine and basic automotive maintenance and repair work, which can be accomplished by removing, reinstalling, replacing, adjusting, or cleaning parts, components, and/or systems, corroded mufflers, worn brake pads, water pumps, engine gaskets, faulty hoses, oil changes, tire repairs, air conditioning recharge, engine cooling system or battery servicing. Under direct supervision, removes and replaces standard parts such as spark plugs, drive belts, starter motors, alternators, fuel pumps, exhaust, and pipes. Provides quality customer service to patrons of the Auto Hobby program. Answers phones and handles shop customers requesting information on offered auto hobby programs. Prepares facility for opening and/or closing. Prepares daily cashier reports, deposit slips, and cash collections sheets. Utilizes cash register and makes night deposit and secures funds. Assist in controlling, ordering, receiving and stocking tools, equipment, supplies, and resale parts/items. Maintains tools and equipment in clean and proper conditions. Performs minor routine inspections, adjustments, and repairs of tools and equipment. Assists in conducting inventories. Maintains shop and outside area in an orderly condition. May be subject to preparing daily cashier reports, deposit slips, and cash collections sheets.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination, and one every three years thereafter.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Qualifying Experience:
Must be able to demonstrate working knowledge or formal training in the maintenance and/or repair of automotive engines. Experience must have provided a basic knowledge of and ability to assist in removal, replacement, cleaning, and installation of parts, components and simple accessories. Skill in using basic automotive tools and the ability to read and to interpret parts manuals and manufacturer's repair manuals.

Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
