About the Position: This is a PERMANENT Exhibits Fabricator Leader with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security (DPTMS) located at Fort Jackson, SC.

Duties

Assists in resolving artisan issues related to CAM, CAD, Welding, Woodworking, Injection Molding and, Time keeping. Checks work in progress and completions. Communicates and advises other employees to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines; demonstrates correct work methods. Maintain records of manpower and material. Answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to pass a full background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 35lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Exhibits Fabricator Leader without more than normal supervision. Serves as working leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. I am able to perform the most difficult and complex Exhibits Fabricator Leader (EXPERT) tasks. My experience includes working at journey level by performing tasks such as: Performing the construction of molds, templates, mockups, temporary structures, glass reinforced plastics and components and containments, using a variety of tooling and machinery; using various composite materials to add contour, fabricate and repair ship components and temporary structures; working with a wide range of plastic materials, woods, rubbers, clays, and plaster tooling compounds; determining the type of composite, plastic or other compound to be used based on temperature, weight, and compatibility. Marking and measuring patterns and templates using scribers, dividers, protractors, squares, micrometers, thermographs, calipers, or radar measuring devices. Additionally, I have led others by performing such tasks as passing on instructions from supervisors; getting work started; setting the pace; demonstrating proper work methods; seeing that plans, materials, and tools are available; answering questions of workers on procedures, policies, instructions, or other directives; checking work in progress; assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed; reporting to supervisors on status of work and/or answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Frequently moves molds and other moderately heavy objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Must meet physical work requirements. Working Conditions: Workers are frequently exposed to loud noise, dust, fumes, toxic, and/or potentially flammable chemicals which can cause skin, eyes and lung irritations as well as to the possibility of cuts, burns and bruises. Must meet physical requirements. Numerous PPE protective devices are required to be used to protect employees from hazards. Equipment and clothing are available for employees such as respirators, face shields, gloves, smocks, dual ear protection, protective hand cream, safety glasses, safety shoes, downdraft tables, updraft workstations, etc. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of the position.
