The Time & Leave Clerk (OA) position is located in Nursing Service, which provides guidance and leadership in directing the total Nursing Service of this Medical Center. The position will provide timekeeping functions for a segmented portion of Nursing Service employees as well as other Patient Care employees.

Qualifications

Proficiency Requirement: Applicants for this position must show possession of the following skills: 40 words per minute typing speed. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience in the Federal service that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience is defined as:
Verifying & electronically posting time and attendance records.
Maintaining/editing tour of duty lists.
Checking leave balances of employees to ensure accuracy.
Entering electronic requests for overtime/compensatory time
Demonstrating ability to understand standardized rules and regulations/procedures.
Preparing reports.
Using computer equipment and a variety of software applications.
Communicating with a wide variety of employees and supervisors.

EDUCATION: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed four (4) years above high school education. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.

COMBINATION: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-5 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 18 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-5. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e., 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e., 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work requires the ability to move around the office and carry light items such as office files, papers, books and requires walking, standing, bending, and sitting for long periods of time.
