This National Guard position is for a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC, Position Description Number D1682000 and is part of the OH 123 Air Control Squadron, Ohio Air National Guard.
The purpose of this position is to install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, modify and test various types of powered and non-powered ground support equipment, air compressing, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment.
Duties
As a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC, WG-5378-10, you will perform the following duties:
1. Installs, inspects, troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, operates, overhauls, tests and modifies powered and non-powered ground support equipment, such as engine driven generator sets, power distribution systems, heaters, ventilation, air compressing, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Equipment is used and essential for the power and support of complex communications and sensor systems used to control live aircraft. Performs periodic scheduled maintenance inspections. May also be required to support the same for fixed facilities. Utilizes layout drawings; electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and refrigeration schematics; and pictorial diagrams to solve maintenance problems. Utilizes a variety of specialized tools and test equipment which may include but is not limited to: voltmeter, oscilloscope, frequency counter, signal generator, timing lights, freon leak detector, compression gauges, vibroground, etc.
2.Performs full maintenance on power generation equipment that ranges from 3 Kilowatts (Kw) to 100 Kw. Installs and maintains power conversion equipment (60/400Hertz). Special purpose air conditioning units and systems provide specific and critical temperature control in deployable sensor, communications and data processing facilities. Applies electronic principles in order to troubleshoot, identify, repair, and/or replace electronic components, both analog and digital. Inspects equipment wiring to ensure compliance with wiring schematics and makes repairs as required. Performs load tests to ensure equipment is operating within Technical Order or manufacturer specifications.
3. Performs comprehensive maintenance on powered support equipment. Engines and generators range in size and complexity of 5 to 250 horsepower and 1 to 8 cylinders, and work includes removing, repairing, and overhauling of accessories, and rebuilding of units. Engine rebuilding work requires removal and replacement of crankshafts, pistons, and other integral parts. Replaces, checks, and adjusts valves, bearings, cams, clutches, bushings, springs, armatures, pushrods, exhaust manifolds, tubing, hose and defective wiring. Diagnoses malfunctions, using visual and auditory senses, test equipment and applicable technical publications; makes repairs, removes, disassembles and assembles components and sub-systems. Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, certifies and installs multi-fuel tactical heating units.
4. Determines electrical power distribution and demand requirement (load leveling and balancing) and designs plans for deployed and in-garrison training and operational missions. Fabricates electrical power distribution equipment, power and lightning grounding schemes, cables and connectors to support military and commercial power systems and sub-systems. Generates configuration documentation (e.g. diagrams and electrical load requirements) for deployed powered ground support and HVAC configurations. Plans for, and immediately implements, backup or emergency power requirements to ensure the continuation of the air control mission. Ensures adequate generation equipment, distribution equipment, and cables are available and serviceable.
5. Performs corrosion control duties such as inspection, cleaning, stripping, sanding, priming and painting of ground support equipment. Performs required Time Compliance Technical Orders and other required modifications on powered and non-powered support equipment.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
