This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Direct Hire Authority - DIB & MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position serves as a leader working along side other workers setting the pace in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial electronic sensing and control systems. This is a Bargaining Unit position AR3135

Duties

Serve as a working leader scheduling and assigning work to team members. Provide work method instructions and techniques. Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of electronic motor controls, variable frequency drives, reduced voltage starters, and indicating and recording systems used on industrial machinery or engines. Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic digital computers and peripheral equipment, such as computers and programmable logic controllers used for programming and diagnostics of equipment and complex integrated systems. Perform evaluation of complex electronic systems, solve engineering problems of site selection, systems integration, and modify equipment to adapt to novel site characteristics.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires you to possess and maintain a valid stateside driver’s license.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to lead or supervise as an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic Leader. Must possess the ability to perform common tasks including giving directions to a number of employees in accomplishing trades and labor work associated with the installation, maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair to various types of highly complex electronic sensing and controls systems; passing on instructions received from supervisor; demonstrating work procedures; checking work for compliance; providing status reports; and ensuring needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to and occasionally 20 pounds. Work assignments require moderate physical effort. Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise handles items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally handles items greater than 40 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required. Occasionally, climbing and work in high places may be required. Works in a sitting position for extended periods. Work Conditions: Work is usually performed inside in well lighted, heated and ventilated areas. Subject to contact with dirt, dust, and grease; shocks and burns from high voltage; cuts and bruises. When equipment is fixed in place, it is necessary to work in industrial production buildings with exposure to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Employee is subject to injuries, such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical energy or soldering irons. Work involves exposure to explosive hazards when working while operations are in progress.
