You will serve as a WOOD WORKER in the DISTRIBUTION MANAGEMENT OFFICE of MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO.

Duties

You will plan and construct custom shipping and storage containers for items of irregular size and shape from wood or wood substitutes. You will use pneumatic tools, heat-sealing system, foam packing system, and overhead hoist. You will make, repair, and install storage and shipping items such as boxes, small crates, pallets, dividers, and storage bins using wood, wood composites and substitutes, and steel bracing. You will construct, lay out, and repair a variety of specialized and custom wood and wood substitute containers such as crates, boxes, cases, and skids for use in shipment of items, utilizing shop plans, blueprints, and item specifications. You will perform a wide variety of standard and specialized packing duties and receive all types of hazardous material (HM) for preparation for shipment to destinations foreign and domestic.

Requirements

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to possess a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) unassisted and frequently lift and move heavier items with the assistance of other workers or with lifting devices such as floor hoists or cranes.
  • You will be required to be qualified through prescribed training and be authorized to certify the proper preparation of hazardous materials for transportation. Retraining/recertification is required every 24 months.
  • You may drive one or more types of trucks, such as pickup trucks, panel trucks and flatbed trucks, which typically have a GVW of 10,000 pounds or less, on public roads at highway speeds.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Planning and constructing custom shipping and storage containers for items of irregular size and shape (e.g. large and unbalanced equipment, sensitive electronic equipment, or heavy items) AND determining the weight supports of such items to prevent shifting during transit or storage .
