Duties

Major Duties include: Involves construction, alterations, installation, repair, and modification of items and structures such as roofing, framework, rafters, concrete forms, walls, doors, finished paneling, window frames, interior and exterior trims, staircases, trusses, beams, flooring, and miscellaneous items such as workbenches, countertops, bookcases, equipment cabinets, and computer consoles where accuracy, spacing, and fit are essential and structural soundness and appearance are important.- Constructs, rehabilitates, modifies, and assembles from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions, structures such as framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, interior and exterior trims, staircases, trusses and beams, small buildings, building interior finishing, etc., where accuracy and spacing are essential and require journeyman level skills and abilities. Repairs doors and windows, wood substitute items, exterior siding, flooring and interior fabric as necessary in the course of stabilization/restoration and to ensure completeness and structural integrity. Repairs roof sheathing and rafters as required. Fabricates duplicate replacements of deteriorated wood members such as moldings, beams, timbers, and stairways. Construction of difficult angle and curved cuts must be exact. Must be able to improvise with materials and supplies available because distance from supplier. Performs manual tasks such as loading and unloading supplies.- Performs various log replacement and repair techniques which involve splicing and notching of logs using hand tools and power tools such as draw knife, slick, chisels, gouges, adze, hatchet, ax, chainsaw, grinder, scribes, beetle, and drills. Makes sure that all repairs or replacements are done in accordance with the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Knowledge of materials Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
