This is a career-seasonal position that provides field supervision to seasonal Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) operation.
Career-Seasonal positions are guaranteed to work at least 6 months but not more than 50 weeks per year and include all the benefits of permanent employment. The typical season is mid January - early December, but can vary due to workload and funding.
Duties
Performs technician work that is supportive of professionals in resource management (i.e. Biologists, Ecologists, etc.). primarily involved with research, conservation, production, and management of fishes, fishery resources.
Implements natural resource management projects following established procedures. Collects and organizes field data, ensuring quality control of data or collected samples. Provides assessment and classification of data.
Assists in the preparation of reports, plans, and guidelines related to resource management projects.
Provides logistical support for resource management projects as well as advice, assistance, and training to students, volunteers or lower graded technicians.
Uses a variety of computer programs to compile, reduce, store, retrieve, analyze, and report data and other resource management information. Uses a wide variety of specialized equipment to carry out resource management projects.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: providing technical support in an integrated pest management field environment; computing, compiling, and presenting data in reports for a biological or scientific program; participating in aquatic nuisance species assignments, performing such tasks as collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; keeping detailed records of findings or results of biological science tests and procedures, or similar work. GS-6 level work must show independent ability to perform assignments or leadership responsibilities. You must include hours per week worked.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
