These positions are located in the Pacific Northwest Region, Region 6 in the Supervisor's Office of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Carson and Randle, WA. The position serves to operate and maintain engineering equipment in support of road systems and other program areas. Duties

Operate one or more types of heavy equipment, such as graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Perform operator inspections and maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Monitor fluid levels, tire pressure, hose connections, replaces filters and defective light bulbs, and complete preventive maintenance service records. Perform other duties as assigned such as cutting, trimming trees and brush, digging, use of hand tools and other road maintenance support duties.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
