Position is located on a Forest Service unit and has primary responsibilities in the administration of timber sales having conventional contract requirements and conditions.

Duties
The responsibilities listed below are at the full performance level
Interpret and explain timber sale contract provision and technical methods to be used to the timber operator.
Inspect work for compliance with contract specifications governing location and construction of non-system roads, fire prevention, personal safety precautions, and cutting provisions.
Monitor and inspect timber sale operations having conventional contract requirements and conditions
Perform final inspection and recommend acceptance of the contract for closure.
Determine species of logs, diameter and length to record information for timber product accountability.
Identify nature and extent of log defects and calculate volume of defective wood to determine merchantable timber.
Complete final inspections of timber sale before recommending acceptance of contract work for sale closure.
Monitor timber sale for problems occurring that effect forest resources to prevent damage
Follow oral instruction given by supervisor to implement modifications to standard methods used on timber sale to meet the conditions.
Report non-compliance to supervisor of problems that have an effect on accuracy of marking and scaling.
Perform final inspections to recommend acceptance of the contract for closure.
Provide information concerning scale results to timber operators in support of a timber sale program.
Create reports, maps and graphs used in normal forestry work.
Prepare reports of all sale inspections.
Prepare and submit contract inspection reports
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS 06: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level; OR one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as forestry, range management, agriculture); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience.
Examples of specialized experience include two or more of the following: Carried out common sale administration duties; and/or resolved common problems encountered under timber sale contracts; and/or developed reports, maps, and graphs used in normal forestry work.
For the GS-7: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level; OR on ne full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as forestry, range management, agriculture); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience.
Examples of specialized experience include two or more of the following: Monitored and inspected timber sale operations having common contract requirements and conditions; and/or designated timber sale boundaries, and/or interpreted timber sale contract provisions, explained provisions to operators; and/or applied silviculture prescriptions, understood marking guides and identified tree species; and/or reports non-compliance to supervisor.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
