The employee serves as a Motor Vehicle Operator within the Facilities Management Division, Engineering Grounds Transportation, at the VA Medical Center located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Duties
Major Duties:
Operates cars and vans for the purpose of transporting authorized patients and passengers between the domiciliary and general hospital, on the station grounds, and on other authorizes off-station trips.
Transports patients, members, and cargo to other VA facilities throughout Wisconsin and surrounding states.
Maneuvers vehicles over uneven terrain, improved or unimproved roads, congested areas, and improved roads with light to moderate traffic.
Utilizes caution and safety at all times when driving, parking, or loading and unloading.
Adheres to all state, local, and installation traffic laws and ordinances.
Operates vehicles up to 26,000 pounds on a regular and recurring basis.
Assists patients from the vehicle to their scheduled destination.
Loads and unloads supplies and building materials from trucks.
Operates engineering type equipment such as trucks, tractors with hammer knife, mowers, metal drag, discs, scrapers, plows, snow blowers, shovels, salters, forklifts, front end loaders, and other gasoline driven grass cutting equipment.
Removes snow from facility streets, sidewalks, and parking lots during snow emergencies with trucks, tractors, sidewalk plow, and hustler equipped with snow blower.
Performs grounds maintenance tasks (i.e., sweeps roads and sidewalks, rakes and cuts lawns, etc.).
Assists in moving office furniture, supplies, and building materials.
Performs operator and minor maintenance on all equipment utilized.
Work Schedule: Saturday - Wednesday, 8:00am - 4:30pm; this position is considered emergency essential and may require working outside of normal duty hours for snow emergencies.
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Qualifications
DRIVER's LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Must possess a valid state issued Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with B, C, D with Passenger, Air Brakes and Medical Endorsement. (Please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you may be required to provide a copy of your current, valid, and unrestricted CDL.)
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Employee is required to stand, sit, and bend. When loading and unloading trucks or when working on grounds maintenance tasks, the employee is required to lift 50 pounds and occasionally works in cramped and fatiguing positions. Frequent stooping/bending and physical exertion may be involved when assisting into and out of the vehicle.
Work is performed in all types of weather, both indoors, in a vehicle, and outdoors. When driving vehicles, employee is exposed to traffic hazards, inclement weather conditions, and other various safety concerns. Depending on the tasks performed, safety equipment may be required.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
