This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce-Positions in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, including technician positions within the Defense Acquisition Workforce, to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Serve as Principal Investigator for multiple projects focused on the evaluation and validation
of various therapeutic strategies in military-relevant models of TBI and/or TBI+polytrauma.
Direct an established program focused on improving bioenergetics and metabolomics
following experimental (pre-clinical) TBI and TBI+polytrauma in rodents and swine.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on TBI Neurotherapuetics evaluation topics for the
DoD
Serve on Integrated Product Teams, Government Steering Committees, Brief VIP visitors on
the program, establish Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs) with
partnering agencies,
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Selectees must meet position requirements for certification at Level II in the Acquisition Career Field "Science and Technology" within 24 months of entrance on duty.
- A three year probationary period may be required.
- This position requires a secret clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Evaluating various pharmacological drugs, genes, environmental agents, nutrients, neuroendocrine and neurotropic factors for their therapeutic effects & toxic responses using various experimental (preclinical) models of traumatic brain injury in rodents and swine; 2.) Identifying bioenergetic dysregulation and metabolic disruption in small and large animal models of TBI and/or TBI+polytrauma; 3.) Designing experiments to test different routes of drug delivery including but not exclusive to, intranasal drug delivery, hydrogel-embedded drug delivery, as well as intravenous, intramuscular, intraperitoneal delivery routes; AND 4.) Validation of numerous drug therapeutic testing including pharmacokinetic and dynamic parameters (PK/PD) for TBI and/or TBI+polytrauma.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (DB-03/GS-14).
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
