This position is located at the Jack C. Montgomery VA, Muskogee, Oklahoma in Environmental Management Service. The primary function of the Laborer is to perform recycling, segregation, collection, and disposal of medical and solid waste streams. Incumbent must have specialized knowledge of regulations, including handling, storing, and shipping of regulated medical waste streams.

Duties

Major duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the entire job assigned to them with minimal instruction or supervisory input. Move equipment less than 100 lbs to other areas of the hospital. Deliver equipment and/or supplies to other facilities in the Healthcare System. Assist department with task outside of normal day to day task. Collection, segregation, recycling, and disposal of solid and medical waste throughout the hospital. Incumbent will be required to separate, stack, carry, and load/unload materials and supplies. Operate a Forklift. Most of the work required for this position involves twisting, climbing, crawling, lifting, bending, crouching, leaning, stretching, sitting, standing, stooping, and carrying. This position requires the incumbent to push and lift weights up to 80-lbs and, occasionally, items weighing more than 100-lbs. He/ She must have general knowledge and skills of OSHA Safety guidelines pertaining to the safe operation of equipment. He/ She will gather cardboard, solid waste, medical waste and pallets from various locations within the medical center. He/ She will be assigned to bailing and palatalizing cardboard bails, assisting in the packaging and labeling of medical waste. Duties include the collection, segregation, recycling, and disposal of solid and medical waste throughout the hospital. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer/PD109460 Physical Requirements: This position requires the incumbent to push and lift weights up to 80-lbs and, occasionally, items weighing more than 100-lbs. These items will be lifted with the assistance from other co-workers. Most of the work required for this position involves twisting, climbing, crawling, lifting, bending, crouching, leaning, stretching, sitting, standing, stooping, and carrying. Safety equipment is available and will be issued to the incumbent in order to minimize the possibility of injury. A majority of the incumbent's work-related duties will be performed outside. The employee is subject to environmental discomforts including heat, rain, cold, mud, wind, dirt, and dust. The incumbents work is performed in areas where pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers have been applied. He/ She may be exposed to unpleasant odors and discarded bio waste including blood and human body parts. Personal protective equipment and safety equipment is available for the incumbent.
