This position is located in Field Operations Directorate, Office of Field Operations, District 24, Oakland Park Field Office. As an Supervisory Immigration Services Officer, you will conduct and oversee the planning of independent research regarding the eligibility entitlements of persons seeking immigration benefits, employment, and/or legal status under the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Duties

Research and make case determinations, hearing and adjudicating appeals, and make decisions on reopening cases and whether to reconsider cases. Provide technical and administrative advice to staff who examine applications and petitions for immigration benefits, supporting documentation and related files or automated records to determine whether requested actions meet governing regulations. Respond to applicant's questions or resolve problems through the application of established methods and criteria without causing unnecessary delays to either the applicant or the organization. Assign work based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Plan work to be completed by subordinates, set and adjust short-termpriorities, and set target dates for work completion.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 11/17/2023. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 11/17/2023. GS-13: You qualify at the GS-13 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Making final determinations on difficult and sensitive immigration benefits cases that are discretionary, precedent-setting, highly visible, and are of great importance to the agency. Rendering immigration benefits decisions that have substantial impact to a wide range of agencies at the federal, state and local levels. Analyzing new immigration benefits regulations and complex technical amendments as well as procedures for making final determinations on applications/petitions for immigration benefits. Education

EDUCATIONAL SUBSTITUTION: There is no educational substitution at this grade level.

Training: If you have not already done so, you will be required to attend and complete a USCIS Officer training course. This is typically provided through a blended approach of virtual instruction followed by in-residence instruction at a training venue. Training must be successfully completed according to the standards of the agency. Failure to do so will be grounds for mandatory removal from the position. Such failure will result in either reassignment to a different position, demotion or separation by appropriate procedures.
