This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DOD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Incumbent is assigned to the Drift Collectors, M/V Raccoon or M/V John A. B. Dillard Jr. to maintain, and repair all equipment associated with the engineering operation of the vessel. *Relocation or Recruitment incentives may be offered to highly qualified candidates.*

Duties

In small work groups must plan and layout work in making major and operating repairs of all engine room machinery and auxiliary equipment. Accomplish repairs, such as replacing bearings, repairing fuel lines, grinding valves, replacing cylinders, pistons and shears in auxiliary pumps and machinery, removing and replacing complete assemblies. Preheat, braze, bevel and vee as necessary to accomplish assignments, and operate lathe and drill press in turning down shafts and bushings. Operate lathe and drill press in turning down shafts and bushings. During light debris season, incumbent may be subject to assignment on phases of productive work. Stand a shift watch and work alone without close technical supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Marine Machinery Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. I have experience under direct supervision performing operations maintenance and repair work including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and welding projects for equipment, fuel, sewage, HVAC, potable water, hydraulic, electrical systems, vessels, and vehicles in accordance with established trade standards. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work is frequently performed in uncomfortable and tiring positions. There is frequent climbing, standing, stooping and lifting up to 50 pounds by individuals and of greater weights with assistance. Works inside and outside. Subject to dangers of flammable fuels, exhaust fumes and gases, hot engine rooms, metal chipping and grinding, moving machinery, slippery decks and hazards attending movement of floating plant.
