About the Position: Serves as an Explosives Safety Specialist for the United States Army Central/Coalition Forces Land Component Command (USARCENT/CFLCC), duty location of Shaw AFB, SC.

Duties

Investigates ammunition and explosive accidents and incidents, and weapon-related accidents and incidents. Provides technical explosives guidance and advice on such matters to Director of Safety, Senior Safety Manager, operational supervisors, USARCENT/CFLCC command group, and subordinate agencies and officials. Serve as the technical explosives safety manager governing the implementation of a comprehensive explosives safety program for all activities within USARCENT/CFLCC AOR. Monitors the effectiveness of explosives safety policies and procedures within USARCENT/CFLCC AOR that present potential safety and health hazards to military, civilian and contractor personnel, equipment, and the host nation general public. Develops explosive safety policies for the command. Prepares survey and inspection reports identifying unsafe operations and conditions, specifying corrective actions and provides recommendations for program improvements.

  • This position has been designated as Emergency Essential and is deployable.
  • Shift work/irregular hours may be required as mission dictates.
  • Professional Certificate in Safety and Occupational Health certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Professional Certificate in Explosives Safety Level II within 6 months of employment.
  • Valid state driver's license required.
  • Government driver's license required.
  • Wear of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
  • Temporary duty travel (TDY) up to 50% required when not deployed, 100% when deployed.
  • Situational telework only.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) experience developing explosives safety criteria and procedures for a military installation; 2) performing inspections of facilities and equipment to ensure safety and compliance with regulations; 3) preparing reports identifying unsafe operations and conditions; 4)advising personnel of appropriate measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes which may cause mishaps. This definition of specialized experience is typical of the work performed at the next lower level (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Explosives OperationsExplosives Safety ManagementWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
