You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the DESIGN AND ANALYSIS BRANCH (BL33600), of the MISSION OPERATIONS & INTEGRATION DEPARTMENT, NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER AIRCRAFT DIV LKE, DEPARTMENT OF NAVY of NAVAIRWARCENADLKE.

Duties

You will analyze and design alterations to complex systems. You will Identify technical issues or problems to be studied and resolved in order to achieve program objectives. You will inspect mechanical engineering work performed by others to ensure compliance with requirements or specifications. You will recommend fluid system design, operation, or improvements to be used in system fabrication.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the DP-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Leading investigations and troubleshooting Hydraulic Systems to determine the practicality and adaptability of alternate technical approaches in accordance with Naval aircraft support equipment design criteria. 2) Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to design and implement new and innovative hydraulic equipment to provide needed capability to the Fleet in a cost effective and efficient manner. 3) Developing and implementing new theoretical treatments, instrumentation, equipment, and procedures for fielding, testing, and solving problems with new and existing Hydraulic Systems related to Naval Aviation, including both SE and ALRE systems. 4) Developing junior engineers by serving as an expert advisor in the theory, installation, operation, and maintenance of Hydraulic Systems, including understanding of aircraft hydraulic system design and safety of flight issues. 5) Serving as an expert advisor on Naval Aviation related Hydraulic Systems to NAVAIR Headquarters, other NAWCAD Lakehurst departments, other Naval SYSCOMs, TYCOMs, NAVICP, other Defense services, other Federal agencies, commercial/industrial organizations, and foreign countries. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration For more information about EI and EIT registration requirements, please visit the National Society of Professional Engineers website at: http://www.nspe.org

Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico The FE examination is not administered by the U. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

OR

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
