The Supervisory Vocational Specialist functions as the immediate supervisor, team leader, and Vocational Rehabilitation Program Coordinator. The position is aligned under the Social Work Service, and reports directly to the Social Work Assistant Chief or designee.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to :
Responsible for planning, development, implementation, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of the West Palm Beach Veterans Administration Medical Center's (WPB VAMC) Vocational Rehabilitation Program in order to meet the objectives for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients.
Assigns, directs, and reviews the work of the lower grade employment specialists.
Provides supervision, training, guidance, and instruction on an ongoing basis to subordinate Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist staff and is responsible for program outcome measures.
Seeks out and successfully grows employment opportunities for CWT, SE, and CEC participants for career development through community employers.
Makes contacts and/or provides education to other subordinate staff to collaborate with local employers to market and educate local businesses on the Transitional Work Experience (TWE) and SE CWT programs; both hospital based and Community Transitional Work Experiences, Department of Higher learning partnerships & collaboration of community psychosocial services.
Develops worksite agreements in both the medical facility and with community employment while assisting the staff and/or Veterans to assess and maintain that worksite or employment.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/16/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: directing vocational rehabilitation (i.e., provision of services to individuals whose employability or job adjustment is impaired by (a) a physical, mental, emotional or other disability, or (b) a lack of basic education and job skills or other disadvantaged background condition) training and placement programs for those individuals with severe physical or emotional disability (i.e., requiring highly individualized programming and substantial adjustments in the training or job environment; deciding and improving work methods and procedures for motivating and encouraging individuals with severe limitations to become self-sufficient involving the application of counseling techniques and methodology to achieve work goals and objectives, and in determining other management strategies; justifying, defending, or negotiating in representing the vocational rehabilitation project, training and placement program segment(s), or organizational unit(s) directed, in obtaining or committing resources, and in gaining compliance with established rehabilitation policies, regulations, or contracts with new sources (e.g., new training facilities).

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office. May require occasional travel.
