This position serves as a Medical Support Assistant (OA) within the Purchased Referred Care (PRC) department of the Pawnee Indian Health Center. The incumbent is responsible for coordination and issuance of purchase orders for all patient care services and assures compliance with regulations regarding PRC eligibility requirements. This position reports to the PRC Supervisory Health System Specialist.
Duties
Prepares and distributes all purchase order authorizations.
Follows up on outstanding purchases and denial and/or deferred letters.
Analyzes obligations and disbursements.
Assures compliance with regulations regarding PRC eligibility requirements, denial and appeal processes.
Verifies patient eligibility in receiving routine medical referrals and/or emergency call-ins for treatment.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Typing Proficiency: The typing proficiency requires applicants to type 40 words per minute based on a five minute sample with three or fewer errors.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Examples include determining eligibility requirements; obtaining and processing demographic requirements and insurance information for patient registration, alternate resources, purchased referred care services or related purposes; preparing, processing and issuing medical referrals for outside vendors; setting up patient appointments by phone, taking emergency call-ins; talking with patients regarding bills, follow up appointments; basic knowledge of medical procedures, various medical specialties and medical terminology to select providers; arranging appointments, and discussing procedures recommended under the guidance of supervisor or medical staff.
OR Four years of education beyond the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
OR Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Examples include preparing, processing and issuing medical referrals for outside vendors; communicating with patients regarding bills, status of claims, approved referrals, follow up appointments and appeal process when necessary within the scope of PRC procedures and policy; and coordinating the management of the health care delivery system by providing contract medical vendors with purchased referred care (PRC) authorizations to determine an estimated cost of the services rendered, whether inpatient or outpatient services.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
