About the Position: At the full performance level, you will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist responsible for planning and managing a comprehensive safety occupational health program to eliminate or control the risk of injury to personnel assigned to The Dalles Project.

Duties

Enforces safety and occupational health principles, methods, and techniques which includes understanding OSHA requirements. Conduct surveys to identify hazards and to evaluate and recommend abatement procedures. Investigate mishaps involving personnel or damage to machinery, tools, materials, or equipment. Address any near misses, injuries, or accidents and brief the Operations Project Manager. Evaluate, procure, and distribute accident prevention material and provide training. Perform administrative functions such as timekeeping, travel, correspondence, and electronic records management.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service which is the GS-05 or equivalent. -OR- Education: One full year of graduate level education with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene). -OR- Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines. In order to be creditable under this provision. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service which is the GS-07 or equivalent. -OR- Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or master's or equivalent graduate degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. To qualify at the GS-11 level, One year of specialized experience which includes experience with ensuring environmental compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations as well as performing site inspections and evaluating work practices to determine compliance with applicable laws and regulations, recommending changes to control or eliminate potential or existing hazards or violations, and advising supervisors of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level which is the GS-09 or equivalent. -OR- Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
