You will serve as a MATERIAL HANDLER LEADER in the Job Readiness Coordination (JRC) Branch (Code 530.1), in the Supply Department (Code 500), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will be responsible for warehousing and materials management functions including receipts, processing, storage of inbound material, inventory control and cycle counting, shipping material, and the retrieval/issuance of material.
You will be responsible for all incoming materials, comparing them against work requests to verify receipt of correct items, notes storage or overages by surveying.
You will visually check/count the contents of shipping containers as well as annotating shipping documents, notify supervisors of discrepancies, and initiate corrective actions.
You will be responsible for the physical security and control of material within the warehouse and designated storage areas.
You will assure the material handlers within the warehouse adhere to safety and proper housekeeping.
You will review and evaluate the work of subordinate employees, explain work requirements, methods, and procedures required on tasks to be performed.
Requirements

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- The position often requires irregular hours.
- This position requires rotating shift work.
- This position requires evening and weekend work.
- You will be required to possess a current Forklift certification; or, be willing and able to attain a Forklift certification within one year of selection.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
Qualifications

Routing work operations relative to the physical receipt storage, location, and inventory of material stored.
Inputting, processing, and retrieving data from automated materials management systems for performing and maintaining inventory and warehousing transactions, as well as barcoding use and implementation.
Assisting as needed in the ordering of inventory for any designated Fiscal Year by providing input and information on material usage and movement, as well as trends on material being stored.
Working with the planning department (procurement) on issues pertaining to material regarding shortages, overages, damaged material, incorrect material, and past due material; as well as with customer departments on issues with material, delivery, and service.
Shipping, receiving, inventory control, and operating power equipment, forklifts, etc.
