About the Position: This position serves as a Range Operations Controller with responsibility for providing twenty-four hour Fire Desk operations and continuous inspection of ranges, training areas, and training facilities for the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, & Security, Training Plans and Operations Division (DPTMS) in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Duties
Transmit operational safety information to range personnel.
Conduct range safety briefs to newly certified Range Safety Officers.
Conduct inspections on a scheduled basis to ensure and document operational status.
Provide instructions for on-the-spot corrections for minor violations.
Ensure that ranges, training areas, and facilities are maintained and utilized according to established policies, regulations, procedures, and safety requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a requirement to lift over 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass the Range Safety Certification Examination.
- Incumbent may be required to work Sunday through Saturday, day or night. Must be able to work extended hours.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience such as participating in the operation of live fire ranges, ensuring proper and safe conduct of training throughout the range complex, inspecting ranges, training areas, and firing positions, advising units/personnel conducting training on all matters pertaining to safety. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
