These positions are in Rocky Mountain VA Healthcare Network, Fiscal Operations Management Team located at the Fort Harrison VAMC in Fort Harrison, MT.
Duties

Major Duties:
Reconciles monthly listing of accounts payable with the general ledger and miscellaneous obligation documents sheets.
Researches cause of discrepancy and initiates necessary adjustment action.
Researches cause of discrepancy and takes action to equate listings and ensure that accounts balance.
Researches current accounts, historical data, and source documents to develop detail information of the status of various transactions, account balances, changes during a period or other specified information.
Prepares monthly reports and reconciliations for submission, including unfunded accounts receivable reports, reconciliation of accounts receivable, and the reconciliation report.
Develops comparative data reflection relationships between accounts, time periods, cost of operations, etc.
Uses detailed listings of outstanding transactions and reconciles the control account.
Reconciles a variety of computer printouts or manual listings with appropriate control accounts.
Closes accounts and prepares reports and statements, as required
Assigns appropriate accounting transaction codes to documents to reflect the activity listed.
Assures that accounting documents processed are included in the appropriate accounting period.
Establishes and maintains files of commitments, liquidated and unliquidated obligations.
Maintains and updates miscellaneous obligation documents daily.
Reviews and examines statements and source documents, verifies information against guidelines and supporting files, ensures that sufficient funds have been obligated and totals are correct.
Codes transactions and processes material through data processing for application in the accounting system.
Assigns proper account codes to each transaction and establishes new class codes and/or transaction codes as required to process each document.
Codes each document and/or line item on a document to be used as input to update the general ledger accounts, mechanized journals, cash ledger, appropriation reimbursement ledger and cost ledger.
Inputs coded data into information management system for application in the accounting system.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following experience:
EXPERINECE: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of an Accounting Technician GS-5. Specialized experience includes: performing clerical, assistant, or technician level work in support of budget administration, accounting, auditing, payroll, fiscal, and/or financial management functions; performing budget administration support, financial systems support, payroll, cash process, voucher examination, or accounting technician work.
OR
EDUCATION: Four (4) years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time academic study is usually 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.
OR
COMBINATION: Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. For the GS-05 only the semester hours in excess of the first 60 semester hours can be used in place of experience. NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items such as papers and books.
