This position is located within the Environmental Management Service of the West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) in Big Spring, TX.
Duties
Carpentry Duties: executes a full range of maintenance activities related to furniture, shelving, partitions, bookcases, interior design artwork, equipment, and material relocation at the Medical Center and at each Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). Incumbent will assemble/disassemble and repair desks, chairs, and bookcases, using screws, nails, glue, fasteners, hammers, mallets, screwdrivers, wrenches, and power drill drivers. Assemble and install shelving, cabinets, mirrors, wall art, bulletin boards, clocks, signage, window treatment, paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other general or decorative item into sheetrock, plaster, metal or brick surfaces.
Painter Duties: prepares the surface of furniture to coat with stain, varnish, or paint by brushing, rolling, or spraying.
Vehicle Operations: operates a van, sedan and truck (box, cargo, and flatbed) 20ft size truck weighing up to 13,000 lbs., to load and unload on Government installations and on public roads in a full range of traffic conditions. Transports furniture, interior design items, and tools, from the Medical Center to CBOC's and from CBOC's to the Medical Center for disposition.
Forklift/Utility Vehicle Operations: operates a forklift and utility vehicle on Government installations. Moves, stacks/unstacks pallets in and about warehouse, storage areas, loading docks, and on and off vehicles with a forklift. Moves equipment and furniture in and about warehouses, storage areas, and loading docks with a utility vehicle.
General Maintenance Operations: provides services including delivery and removal of existing furniture, equipment, and related materials from a location, transporting the items to a new location to either install or place. Performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs on a variety of materials handling equipment, housekeeping carts, laundry carts, and floor machines. Tools consist of hand and power tools.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, with occasional evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 lbs. and over), pushing (2 hours), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (3 hours), standing (3 hours), crawling (1 hour), kneeling (1 hour), repeated bending (1 hour), climbing, legs only (1 hour), climbing, use of legs and arms, both legs required, operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, depth perception, hearing (aid permitted).
