About the Position:
This position is assigned to the Operations Directorate Integrated Operations Division (J3X), USSOUTHCOM, located in Miami-Dade, Florida.
Duties
Serve as national technical expert in Counterterrorism (CT), Counterproliferation (CP) of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and Consequence Management (CM) of WMD plans.
Plan and coordinate contingency and operations plans and agreements in these areas.
Make expert recommendations and decisions that directly affect planning and execution for all USSOUTHCOM deliberate plans and policy.
Develop complex strategic special operations employment concepts and methods for real world execution.
Advise the Director of Strategy, Policy, and Plans (J5), and the Director of Operations (J3) during imminent or actual emergencies as senior civilian advisor for the HQ USSOUTHCOM Operations.
Represent USSOUTCHCOM at meetings and brief senior staff and high-ranking officials.
Brief to world and national leaders on sensitive national plans and policies and how they relate to joint missions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position is designated Critical-Sensitive (3) requiring a TOP SECRET security clearance.
- Must possess a completed Special Background Investigation (or be able to complete one) and be cleared for TOP SECRET and Sensitive Information (SI) access.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Temporary duty/travel (TDY) is 10%.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working knowledge in special operations doctrine, tactics, techniques, and procedures; participating in planning and operational employment of joint military forces in multi-threat combat and crisis environments; applying analytical techniques to conduct studies and evaluate findings; presenting recommendations in briefings to multi-echelon audience.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
