Duties
As a Biologist, you will:
Perform non research biological science work or biological science support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.
Perform recurring, well-precedented standard techniques to identify and characterize biological and/or other agents that cause a number of diseases.
Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments that are necessary to perform specialized tests, analyses and other standard procedures in conducting experiments and studies.
Perform experiments in accordance with standard methods and techniques.

Basic Qualifications:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
AND
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level, which must include the following experience: identifying biological agents which have relevance for public health; and performing experiments with standard methods and techniques (e.g., cell culture).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
