The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional social work services in support of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP). As the FAIS, designs, develops, coordinates and implements the secondary prevention component of FAP.

Duties

Designs, develops, coordinates, and implements the secondary prevention component of FAP. Responsible for case management activities occurring from initial referral and counseling, through case closure, or transfer. Provides professional advisory services and training to other health care professionals, installation personnel, and community agencies concerning secondary prevention programs; and serves as community liaison with military and civilian agencies.   • At a minimum, qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the 0185 occupational series must be met.
  • Selective Placement Factors: Must have the following minimum qualifications IAW DOD directive:
  • (a) A Master in Social Work, Master of Science, Master of Arts, or doctoral-level degree in human service or mental health from an accredited university or college.
  • (b) The highest licensure in a state or clinical licensure in good standing in a state that authorizes independent clinical practice.
  • (c) Two years of experience working in the field of child abuse and domestic abuse.
  • (d) Clinical privileges or credentialing in accordance with Service FAP headquarters policies.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Position has been identified as having “regular contact with children,” requiring a criminal history background check to be completed on any person selected for the position IAW DOD guidance

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, Social Work Series 0185+IOR. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes Applying professional knowledge of a variety of social services, social work practices, principles, and theories, including but not limited to clinical case work, community outreach programs, family and children protection services, and family violence prevention theory and practice, dynamics, and indicators. Using knowledge of the organization, management, and administration of child and family prevention and outreach services. Providing knowledge of complex helping systems, professions, and organizations; how they affect child and family welfare; and the multiple uses of such systems, professions, and organizations to deliver services. Conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of client concerns and/or issues; providing professional assistance to clients; and determining appropriate referral services and/or options. Applying professional diagnostic skills to individuals and families, and to plan and organize, establish treatment plans, set priorities, and meet suspense's. Communicating effectively, orally and in writing, and working well with others in a team approach. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Professional knowledge of social work practices, principles, and theories to carry full professional responsibility for cases involving a wide range of psychosocial and environmental problems. Knowledge and experience in the organization, management, and administration of child and family welfare services to participate in program planning and in the development and maintenance of public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies. Knowledge of a wide array of problems and disorders of children and families, and the varied resources needed to treat them. Ability to evaluate and determine best application of multiple complex helping systems, various professions, and organizations; how they affect child and family welfare; and the multiple uses of such systems, professions, and organizations to deliver services. Ability to directly apply professional diagnostic skills to individuals and families. Ability to assess, intervene, and provide therapeutic intervention. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
